This 2003 Indian Chief Motorcycle on display here at the Naked Racer is from the Movie ‘Terminator III’ starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kristanna Loken. And is the actual motorcycle ridden by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie. It retains the original electronics that operate the police lights and sirens for the movie sequence.
It was later used in the movie “Cat in the Hat” directed by Bo Welch in which it was also a police bike.
Indian first started making motorcycles in 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts, who started 2 years earlier than the Harley-Davidson motor company. They made motorcycles until 1953 when they filed for bankruptcy. CMC known as Californian Motorcycle Company acquired the Indian Motorcycle trademark in 1998 and they produced motorcycles from 1999 to 2003; from 2002 to 2003 the company redesigned the engine to what was called the Powerplus Bottle Cap Engine; there were subsequent assembly problems, and many hundreds left the factory with catastrophic engine faults plunging the company into bankruptcy and all production ceased in September 2003.
In 2002, Indian decided it was time for an engine change and they designed their own engine top end which became known as the Bottle Cap. It was a distinctive look and suited the bike quite well as can be seen right here in our example.
There are but a handful of bikes in the world that are as iconic as this motorcycle and here at the Naked Racer, we are very proud to own this amazing piece of history which is on display for all to see in our Terminator III Display.
