Step-by-step: How to get a Club Permit
Follow the steps in order. Keep your documents together so you can complete the process smoothly.
Become a financial club member
You must be a financial member of an approved club. If you haven’t joined yet, start with the Classic Racer Club.
Confirm the vehicle is eligible
Your motorcycle or car must be a minimum of 25 years old. If it’s younger, it’s not eligible for a club permit. There are no exceptions.
Get a Victorian Roadworthy Certificate (RWC)
You’ll need a valid Victorian RWC. Many mechanics in Victoria can help. If you’re not sure where to start, contact Naked Racer Workshop or ask a club member for guidance.
Book an appointment with a scrutineer
Organise an appointment with us. You can only request a scrutineer appointment if you are a financial member with an active membership.
Attend inspection (bring everything)
At the agreed location (e.g., Naked Racer), bring:
- The motorcycle or car you want to register
- Victorian Roadworthy Certificate (RWC)
- Valid Victorian licence
- VicRoads Club Permit Application form (download from VicRoads)
- Proof of current financial membership
After the inspection, you’ll be provided with paperwork — keep it safe for your VicRoads visit.
Take documents to a VicRoads office
After your inspection, take all relevant documents to VicRoads:
- Victorian Roadworthy Certificate (RWC)
- Classic Racer Club scrutineer paperwork
- Valid Victorian licence
You do not need to take the vehicle to VicRoads. Choose either a 45-day or 90-day permit.
Receive logbook + red plates (then you’re ready)
Once payment is made, VicRoads will issue your logbook and red plates. Install the plates and fill out the logbook before each ride.
Important
You must remain an active financial member of Classic Racer Club for your Club Permit to stay active. Memberships are due for renewal each year in November.
Club Permit Renewals
How renewals work
Each year, your club permit renewal notice must be signed by one of the Classic Racer Club scrutineers. To renew for a specific vehicle, contact a scrutineer via email or phone to organise an appointment, or download a Club Permit Endorsement form and send it to your scrutineer for endorsement via email.
Postal option
You can also post signed papers and proof of current financial membership to:
Classic Racer Club1 Grange Road
Cheltenham, VIC
