Looking for a bike that blends authentic heritage with modern craftsmanship? This professionally built 1943 Harley-Davidson Custom UL Bobber, available now at Naked Racer, is a masterclass in vintage style and performance engineering.
Built in 2011, this Custom Harley-Davidson UL Bobber is a stunning fusion of vintage Harley heritage and modern craftsmanship. Anchored in history with a 1937 VL frame, a 1943 Harley-Davidson UL Flathead engine, and a pre-1967 4-speed transmission, this motorcycle celebrates timeless design and mechanical brilliance.
At the heart of this custom build is the extraordinary work of HD-Development in Melbourne, Australia. Known for their precision, heritage respect, and no-compromise engineering, HD-Development has breathed new life into this flathead icon. The result is a professionally built bobber at home on the open road or centre stage at a vintage motorcycle show.
The bike features a rebuilt .80ci UL Flathead engine, a revered powerplant from World War II. Ignited by a Fairbanks-Morse Magneto, this setup stays true to traditional ignition methods, delivering raw spark and performance with classic reliability.
Fuel is fed through a Linkert carburettor, matched with a Linkert air cleaner, preserving that authentic throttle response and unmistakable flathead tone. A Harley-Davidson system handles exhaust duties, tuned to roar with vintage depth.
Shifting is a tactile experience, thanks to the pre-’67 4-speed transmission, controlled via a jockey shift. Power flows through a stock clutch, routed via a 1.5” primary belt drive, and finally delivered to the rear wheel by a durable chain drive—a setup loved by classic Harley riders for its direct, mechanical feel.
The frame is a 1937 Harley-Davidson VL, rigid in form and stock in rake, but carefully modified to accommodate the later-model UL engine and gearbox. This seamless blending of eras ensures the build maintains its vintage posture while supporting upgraded performance.
