2025 Indian Scout 101 Review – Real Ride Impressions from Naked Racer Moto Co
Article written by Johnny Gee · Ridden alongside my son, Charlie Barber, at Naked Racer Moto Co
The 2025 Indian Scout 101 is not just another new model — it’s a serious performance-focused Scout that finally delivers what riders have been asking for over the years. I took this bike out for a proper ride with my son Charlie, and everything in this review is based on real-world riding, not brochure talk.
From the moment I saw it, the Scout 101 looked sharp, purposeful, and premium. Our bike came finished in a stunning cherry red paint with a clean white stripe, fully blacked-out underneath, giving it a modern muscle-bike presence while still carrying classic Indian Motorcycle DNA.
I’ve been an Indian Motorcycle lover for more than 40 years, and my connection with the brand goes far beyond just riding new models. Over the decades, I’ve built a personal collection of Indian motorcycles that spans more than a dozen machines, starting from the earliest days of the brand.
My collection includes everything from the iconic 1907 Indian Camelback, through classic Indian Scouts, right up to legendary Indian Chiefs. I’ve lived with these bikes, worked on them, restored them, and ridden them — which gives me a very clear perspective on what makes an Indian motorcycle feel right.
Because of that history, I don’t take the Scout 101 name lightly. It carries serious weight. So when I say this new 2025 Indian Scout 101 feels like a genuine step forward, it’s coming from someone who knows exactly where this bike comes from.
First Look – Design & Presence
Visually, the Scout 101 immediately feels like a step up from the previous Scouts. When I first walked up to it in the workshop, it had that presence that makes you stop and look twice.
- Fully blacked-out engine and exhaust
- Beautiful cherry red paint with heritage-inspired striping
- Clean, aggressive stance
- Quality finishes everywhere you look
It’s the kind of bike that looks just as good parked outside the workshop as it does rolling down the road — and that’s something Indian has always done well when they get it right.
That said, the factory two-into-one exhaust isn’t everyone’s favourite visually. Personally, I find it a bit bulky. The good news is that at Naked Racer Moto Co, we already have a slip-on muffler solution that bolts straight on, gets rid of that “boomerang” look, and completely transforms the rear of the bike — especially when it’s paired with one of our tail tidy kits.
Engine & Performance – SpeedPlus Power
This is where the Scout 101 really separates itself. When I rolled on the throttle, it was immediately obvious this bike has serious performance in it.
The 2025 Scout 101 is powered by the SpeedPlus 1250cc engine, making around 111 horsepower, and you can feel it the moment the revs climb.
- Smooth off the line
- Strong mid-range
- Explosive pull when revved
- Feels lively, aggressive, and addictive
Under acceleration, it genuinely pulls on your arms, and the seat’s built-in back stop does a great job of keeping you planted when the power comes on hard. It’s the kind of engine that feels civil when you want it to be — and properly exciting when you don’t.
Riding Position & Ergonomics
Indian has absolutely nailed the riding position on the Scout 101. From the moment I sat on it, everything felt where it should be.
- High handlebars give excellent control
- Billet handlebar risers look premium and feel solid
- Comfortable, supportive seat with quality quilting
- Plenty of room, especially for taller riders
During the ride, the bike felt natural and confidence-inspiring. The seating position works extremely well for longer stints — this is the kind of bike I could comfortably ride for hours without feeling beaten up at the end of the day.
Suspension – Finally Fixed
One of the biggest complaints with earlier Scouts was the suspension — especially the rear shocks. I’ve always felt that was the weak point of the old setup, and I’m happy to say Indian has finally addressed it properly on the Scout 101.
The 2025 Scout 101 features:
- Fully adjustable front suspension
- Fully adjustable rear suspension
- Noticeably better ride quality
- More confidence through corners
You can feel the difference immediately. The bike tracks properly, stays composed, and feels far more planted than previous generations — especially when you start pushing through corners and uneven road surfaces.
Brakes & Handling
The Scout 101 is fitted with some serious braking hardware, and you feel that confidence straight away when you start riding it properly.
- 320mm disc rotors
- Four-piston Brembo calipers
- Strong, predictable stopping power
In the corners, the bike feels surprisingly capable. The updated setup and revised geometry — including moving away from the old 16-inch front wheel — makes a huge difference. There’s more ground clearance, better turn-in, and excellent stability mid-corner.
It looks good going into a corner — and more importantly, it feels right.
Technology & Features
Even though the Scout 101 is clearly built with performance in mind, it still comes loaded with modern tech — and it’s all the useful kind, not the gimmicky stuff.
Key features I like on this bike:
- Ride Command system
- GPS navigation
- Tyre pressure monitoring
- Full digital display
- Rider-focused electronics without overcomplication
Everything works as expected, the layout is straightforward, and nothing feels like it’s there just for the sake of it.
Real Ride Verdict
After taking the 2025 Indian Scout 101 out on the road, one thing is very clear — Indian has fixed what needed fixing.
The suspension is sorted.
The handling is sharper.
The engine is powerful and exciting.
The overall package feels premium and well thought out.
This is not just a good-looking bike — it’s a proper rider’s Scout.
